My thoughts on America 2017 and the Trumpresidency

Trumpresident – n. An asshole named Trump, who will never truly be president, but instead will hold residency of office due to questionable means, until a suitable replacement is demanded and delivered by the American people.       Like millions of other Americans, I have settled into something of a depression regarding the outcome of the 2016 presidential election. What the fuck happened right? A lot of vociferous alt-righters on Facebook claim that Trump’s victory over Clinton was the will of the people, but I have a really hard time believing that the people of America have become so malicious,...

Keepin' it up to Date

Hey everyone!       Just wanted to pop in and let you all know that I am still working hard on the Dope Fiends comics, despite me seeming disappearance since last September.       My personal life has been pretty slammed lately, and although its no excuse I did after all win first prize in the 2015 KLAQ Halloween Parade, get married (thank-you), have a good many holidays, and then spend several weeks care-giving loved ones (3 of them) who were hospitalized.      But now back to work! Please come check us out this April 15-17th at EPCON in...

Weebies, Weebuses, Weeblits and More...

Posted by Andrew Aguilar on

What gibberish is this?      Hello again all! As you no doubt have noticed if you've been following my site, there has been a lot of new additions in the "Weeb-ix" category lately. Just what in the Weeb am I talking about?      You won't find a definition of Weebie on Google, because 'We-Be' making it up! Well of course it's a brand-new brand from the Dope Fiends Comics and Legends of the Adorbs Crochet. It's rough on the hashtags, but soft in the ear, so be sure to tell everyone that a Weebie is a super cute...

Minimum Wage Increase - Why am I the bad guy?

Posted by Andrew Aguilar on

UPDATE : September 15, 2015

So it's been a little over three months since I began my ongoing conversation with the internet at large regarding the minimum wage increase, and I thought I'd post my thoughts and observations at this moment in time.

The answer to the initial question I asked, "Why am I the bad guy?" seems to be: I am the bad guy because I am a no-talent asshole. Here, check out these responses to my Blog link...

and how about this...

Meanwhile, analytics on my website show that although people are reading my blog post, no one has purchased Bernstien the Expensive Mouse. People disagree with me that I should earn more than a food server at a fast food chain, or a checkout clerk at a grocery store.

Don't misunderstand me, I stood up to the people who made these comments, as I politely thanked them for their opinion, and then informed them that their opinion is meaningless to me. People seem to feel that the anonymity of the internet gives them the authority to say whatever they feel, and although these comments do hurt when I'm reading them, not a single one of these people offered an alternative solution to my problem, and the one troll who called me an attention whore didn't even actually read my blog post. (I have analytics people, I can see who sees me!)

That being said, here is my reality. After recently getting married, I am pleased to be splitting my monthly expenses with my wife, which means I can now devote a full 50% of my monthly income on growing my business and begin to market my products. However, the cost of marketing is at the moment at least $200 more than my measly 50%. The growing costs of doing what I do as a business instead of a hobby are quickly outpacing even my advanced capabilities at keeping up with them, and at root the issue is NO SALES.

Maybe these people are right and my product has no value. People don't want to pay $7.00 plus shipping for a comic that they don't want to read anyway.  Don't get me started on the 'print is dead' movement cause that's a whole other debate. But the only possible viable outcome (and it is a long-term strategy) is moving my ideas to a content based rather than product based format in the hopes that eventually I will have enough social media numbers to establish a readership and have enough pull to make money off YouTube licencing and franchising. The merchandise I create is either overpriced or undesired, I don't know which.

So what do I do? I will admit that it does seem like a relief to think sometimes about not having business expenses and just being responsible for a quarter-pounder with cheese or helping whoever calls in with some tech support. I don't want to give up on what I am trying to accomplish, and I will continue to devote my entire focus and determination on succeeding somehow is the cut-throat amigurumi market. Give me crochet or give me death!
